About the Surrounding Area

The village has a pizzeria and post office. There is a supermarket and plenty of restaurants just a short drive away. There are tennis courts and horse riding facilities in the village. There is a lovely outdoor swimming pool near the village of Capestrano. It is E5.00 for the day, which includes beds and an umbrella. There is also a restaurant here as well.

There are many ancient churches, frescoes and monuments, along with the hills and mountains and various historical features surround the village. It is about 40 minutes from skiing, beaches and hiking in four national parks.

L’Aquila is a lovely medieval town with all the amenities and there is a market here everyday as well. There is good motorway access and buses to Rome and Pescara etc. Also many other towns such as Teramo, Atri, Chieti, Sulmona, Scanno, Ascoli and the coast are all within easy driving distance. A car is essential at this property and this makes it very convenient to access all the road systems.

There are walks and a lovely short drive to Bominaca where there are two impressive churches, one Romanesque and another covered in Byzantine-style fresco's. This church has some remarkable Fresco's inside. It is locked, but on the gate there is the number for the person on duty. Call them and they will give you a short tour round. Entrance is free, however it does cost E2.00 for the lights, and a donation is much appreciated. There is also a castle, caves and pizzeria. The Apennines and the Gran Sasso Massif are 20 minutes drive away. Here you will find Corno Grande, Italy's highest peak for hiking and some of the best skiing in Italy.

There are some very friendly villagers who run the coffee shop/ tabac and the Pizzeria. This serves excellent, traditional, authentic pizza and other special main meals at exceptionally reasonable prices. The pizzeria does offer take away, but NOT delivery, however it is only 10 mins up the road. Both shops are open all the time in the summer, however the Pizzeria only opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the winter.

There is a Post Office, only open in the mornings and sells stamps etc. There is a post box there as well. The village also has a play park with swings etc. so it really is great for children too. The village does try to recycle, so in the main part, there are various recycling bins. These include glass, cans, plastic and paper/card. There is a regular rubbish collection as well, the bins are situated a short walk away from the house.
